Rafe Mazer is based out of CGAP’s Nairobi office, and uses behavioral insights to develop new and more effective approaches to financial consumer protection. He partners with governments and financial service providers to implement consumer research and behavioral experiments in a range of topics to develop better policies and product design that respects consumer protection principles. This includes research on pricing transparency, product disclosure, sales practices and incentives, dispute resolution mechanisms, and the impact of digital delivery channels on consumer behavior. His work to date includes research in markets such as Ghana, Kenya, Mexico, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Peru, the Philippines and Tanzania.
